Teams Preview

Dallas Mavericks Preview

After an underwhelming pre-season camp where they lost three of their four games the Dallas Mavericks seem to have found their stride at the start of this season as the return of Luka Doncic has turned around the franchise’s abysmal start as their star man sat out of their pre-season action as he looked to get back to fitness during the off-season break.

The gamble made by Jason Kidd seems to have worked as Luka Doncic has returned as fit as ever and has continued to put up numbers that has left the Dallas side with a 3-1 record during the first week of the league phase.

Luka has been in the center of this impressive form as the Slovenian has played in each of their four games so far averaging 37.3 minutes in the team which is far more than any other player in the squad. Apart from being back to full fitness the 2019 rookie of the year has also found his form as he is currently averaging 26.8 points while also leading his team in rebounds and assists.

After a heartbreaking loss to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals last season the Mavericks seem to be on a mission this year as even after losing key players in Tim Hardaway Jr. and Derrick Jones Jr. the Texas side have invested well and brought in signings like Klay Thompson, Naji Marshall and Spencer Dinwiddie while also retaining core members like Markieff Morris Brandon Williams.

Apart from the aforementioned names the likes of Kyrie Irving, Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively and P.J Washington continue to put in numbers for their squad and with Luka Doncic firing on all cylinders again this might be the season where we see the Larry O’Brien trophy return to Dallas in well over a decade.

Houston Rockets Preview

After missing out on the playoffs and narrowly losing out on the play-in places the Houston Rockets will be determined to make up for their disappointing 2023-24 campaign this time around and while they have not had the start that their Texan counterparts have, they still are in a much better place than where they were at this stage last season.

Having won only one game in their opening four games last season the Houston side have managed to go a step further this time around as they are currently 2 for 2 at this stage and are comparatively better in their scoring figures as well averaging 111.25 this season compared to their 107.75 points per game at this point last season.

Apart from their better record and scoring ability the Rockets had a great pre-season as they won three of their four fixtures and this fine form seems to have translated into their regular season games as they have a 50-50 record so far this season.

Young star Jalen Green who recently signed a three-year extension with the franchise has so far repaid his team’s faith in him as the 22-year-old has performed exceptionally so far this season scoring double digits in all of his team’s fixtures so far with an average total of 28.8 points per game.

Scoring a respected 36 points in his team’s 106-101 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the last fixture Green has been a steward for the Houston Rockets this season and with players such as Fred VanVleet and Alperen Sengun providing the needed support to the youngster, we might see the Rockets finally return to the playoffs after a four-year long hiatus.

DALLAS MAVERICKS vs HOUSTON ROCKETS

Winning Prediction

Despite the Dallas Mavericks being the clear favorites given their current form, home advantage and the fact that they are a team that just reached the NBA Finals a few months back the Houston Rockets will not be a team that will be easy to slide. They have players that can make the difference and should be considered as a huge threat but given that they haven’t won in Dallas in years the Mavericks should get the win come Thursday.
