Dallas Mavericks vs San Antonio Spurs Match Prediction & Analysis
Despite the two Texas sides being very close to each other in the Western Conference at the time of writing both these teams will be eyeing to leapfrog one another on Sunday as both teams look to catch up with their third Texan rival the Houston Rockets who sit comfortably in fifth place in the standings. With both teams currently only 4 and 5 games behind the league leaders the Mavericks and the Spurs can kick start their climb with a win which they will hope is against their state rivals.
You can expect a high intensity game given that both sides have a good history of battling out each other. And with both teams averaging a total match points of 203.3 during their previous meetings in the regular season these particular slips should provide the most yielding odds.

Dallas Mavericks Preview
After a disappointing end to the 2023-24 NBA season where they failed at the last hurdle and were beaten to the NBA crown by the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals the Dallas Mavericks were seen as the favorites to compete for that crown from the Western Conference once again this season but after a positive start to the new campaign the reigning Western Conference champions have fallen behind the leading pack as they currently in twelfth place and will need to put up a strong run if they are to qualify for the playoffs this term.
Having rested their star man Luka Doncic during the pre-season to help him come back fit for the new season the Mavericks seemed to have made the right decision with that call as Luka did come back fit and firing on all cylinders but despite him averaging 28.5 points and currently ranking sixth in the player scoring rankings the Slovenian hasn’t been able to steer his team to success as they hold a record of 5-wins and 7 losses at the time of writing.
Starting their season strong with a win over the San Antonio Spurs the Mavericks were dealt with their first loss in their second game against the Suns as a 40-point Luka display couldn’t help his team get the win. While the Dallas side did follow up that loss with a home win over the Utah Jazz and a first away win in Minnesota against the Timberwolves, they lost that momentum against fellow Texan rivals the Houston Rockets before following that up with an inconsistent win, loss and win record against the likes of the Orlando Magic, Indiana Pacers and the Chicago Bulls.
With a track-record of 5 wins and 3 losses the Mavericks were in prime position to stay well within the playoff places but as things seemed to be working in their favor the Mavericks then went on a 4-game losing streak which has been going on until now where they lost to the likes of the Phoenix Suns, Denver Nuggets, the Golden State Warriors and the Utah Jazz. They lost all these games by a point difference of under 3 and having been so close to victory and yet losing the Mavericks will be flustered as they host the San Antonio Spurs in their next fixture.

San Antonio Spurs Preview
Having played an extra game in comparison to the Dallas Mavericks with 13-games so far, the San Antonio Spurs are currently only a place above the Dallas side in the Western Conference standings and will be hoping to keep this lead intact when they travel to their state rivals at the end of this week. After starting their season against the Dallas Mavericks and then hosting another Texan rival in the Houston Rockets for their second and third games the San Antonio Spurs came out of these fixtures with a record of 1 win and 2 losses losing their first game of the season against the Mavericks before winning and losing a game apiece against the Rockets.
This run of fixtures against the two Texas sides was then followed by a loss to the current Western Conference leaders in the Oklahoma City Thunder before back-to-back wins against the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Utah Jazz left the Spurs with a 3-3 record in the league.
While they would have loved to continue this winning run the Spurs were then dealt with two losses against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Houston Rockets and while they did break that losing streak with a win at Portland the win was a mere consolation in the grand scheme of things as they lost their very next game to the bottom placed Utah Jazz and left them with a 4-6 record in the Western Conference.
This inconsistent run of form for the Spurs finally came to an end against the Sacramento Kings as they beat them by a score of 116-96 and have since picked up another win against the Washington Wizards. Although they did have a commendable outing against the Lakers at home the Spurs will be hoping to keep this positive run of form alive as they travel to Dallas in search of their first victory over the Mavericks this season and will look to improve on their divisional rankings as they have the sole victory against the Rockets to show for in the South West division.
