Teams Preview

Negros Hacienderos Preview

The Negros Hacienderos showed flashes of offensive quality but ultimately fell 101-89 to the Ilagan Isabela Cowboys in an MPBL contest where defensive lapses proved costly.

Michael Alvarez led the charge with 26 points, 7 rebounds,  DJ Howe added 17 points, Flever Dignadice added 15 points and Alejandrino Inigo added 12 points, but their efforts weren't enough.

Offensively, the Hacienderos shot 43% from the field, including 28% from the perimeter, but struggled from the free throw line (50%). Defensively, they were no better on the glass, as they got outrebounded 64-38, giving away multiple second points.

The 101 points conceded highlighted an area Negros must improve as it continues its MPBL campaign. While the 89-point output showed the team can generate offense, greater defensive discipline and consistency will be essential moving forward.

San Juan Knights Preview

The San Juan Knights fell 78-71 to the Quezon Huskers after struggling to break down one of the MPBL’s stingiest defenses. Despite entering the game as one of the league’s top contenders, the Knights were held below their usual offensive standard, managing just 71 points.

Michael Calisaan led the scoring with 14 points, while Orlan Jr Wamar and Raul Soyud added 10 points each.

Offensively, the Knights just shot 34% from the field, 24% from the perimeter and 70% from the free throw line. Defensively, they got outrebounded 44-39, committed 9 key turnovers and made multiple defensive lapses.

The seven point loss exposed areas for improvement in late game execution and offensive efficiency against elite defensive teams. While the result ended on a disappointing note, the Knights remain one of the MPBL’s strongest sides and will look to respond quickly.
