Oklahoma City Thunder vs Atlanta Hawks Match Prediction & Analysis

With both sides needing a win to keep their record stable it will be the side that defends better that will have the win on Monday. Both teams have defensive reinforcements in their squads but it is only the OKC so far that have been defensively sound. And if that goes on, we might see another low scoring affair which can help the bettors get some favorable odds

Oklahoma City Thunder Preview

After a great regular 2023-24 season where they finished on top of the western conference the Thunder came crashing down from the clouds during the playoffs as they were eliminated in the western conference semi-finals by the Dallas Mavericks in 6 games.

A revamped and ready to go a step further this season the OKC have so far been on course to do so as they beat the Denver Nuggets in a stellar fashion during their first game and were in good spirits against the Chicago Bulls whom they played on Saturday evening.

Now playing their first home game of the season at the Paycom Centre the Oklahoma City Thunder will welcome an unbeaten Atlanta Hawks side to their arena and will be hoping for another win on the night as Trae Young and co. will travel to Oklahoma City hoping to have a record that reads 3-0 instead of 2-1.

Despite the threat of Trae Young and the Hawks the OKC Thunder team will be confident in their abilities to defend their home court as they have been defensively solid so far this season especially during their first game of the season where they stopped the Denver Nuggets from reaching the triple digits mark and halted them at a total score of 87 points.

While Nuggets star Nikola Jokic credited the low scoreline to their lack of shooting options the OKC will have to take huge credit for their defensive acumen as they kept the Nuggets at a 35.7% field goal conversion rate while also immobilizing their 3-point shooting as the Colorado based team only managed to muster up a 18.4% shooting percentile from beyond the arc.

Atlanta Hawks Preview

Despite not having the best record in pre-season during which they lost 3 of their 4 fixtures with one of those losses even coming at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder the Atlanta Hawks have been rampant since the beginning of the regular season as they are unbeaten in the eastern conference with a 2-0 record and are scoring for fun at this point of time.

Winning both their fixtures against the Brooklyn Nets and the Charlotte Hornets with a scoreline of 120-116 and 125-120 respectively the Hawks have been in sync with one another so far and have been the team to beat as they have defended their home court wonderfully at this stage.

Star man Trae Young has also started the season brilliantly with the 26-year-old averaging 34 points in his first two games while also averaging 11 assists and 6.5 rebounds. In his last appearance against the Charlotte Hornets the former Oklahoma collegiate star dropped 38 points to guide his team to victory nullifying the 34 points scored by LaMelo Ball while also assisting 10 times and grabbing 8 rebounds.

This performance has allowed the Atlanta Hawks to sit at third place as of this match week and are only one of four teams in the eastern conference to still have a perfect record at the time of writing.

While the Hawks can do better with their shooting averages having managed to snag a 48.1% field goal shooting percentile during their win against the Hornets and a similar 48.8% against the Brooklyn Nets.

The problem lies in their defensive capabilities as they have managed to concede heavily in both of their opening fixtures and will need to rectify that statistic if they are to remain unbeaten against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday.

OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER vs ATLANTA HAWKS

Winning Prediction

Although the return of Trae Young to the city he once represented in college will have a nice fairy tale ring to it but in recent seasons the tie has been very well balanced with both sides winning a game a piece in the last two seasons. While the Hawks will have a say in why they will be crowned winners during the tie on Monday but given how the OKC have performed so far it is difficult to put them aside and they should get the dub on Monday and end the Hawks unbeaten record to the regular season so far.
