Oklahoma City Thunder Preview

Game 1 was the Thunder's worst shooting performance of the postseason and they still nearly won. Caruso led OKC with 31 points on 8-of-14 from three and Williams returned from his six-game absence to contribute 26 points and seven rebounds. But SGA and Holmgren combined for just nine first-half points on 1-of-6 from the field, and Oklahoma City shot 40.6% overall while turning it over 14 times a combination that cost them dearly across 58 minutes of basketball. OKC rallied from 10 down in the fourth quarter and nearly stole the game SGA's layup with 3.1 seconds left tied it at 101 before Wembanyama's 28-foot rainbow in the first overtime and the closing moments of double OT proved too much to overcome. 

For Game 2 at Paycom Center, Oklahoma City must refine its offensive hierarchy. Ajay Mitchell's role shrank to four points in Game 1 as Williams returned, disrupting the shot distribution. The Thunder expect Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a two-time MVP, to bounce back from a quiet opener with 32-36 points. A healthy Williams is projected for 24-28 points following his strong Game 1 return. Daigneault's primary tactical fix involves Chet Holmgren, who was held shotless until late in the first half. By attacking the paint early to put Wembanyama in foul trouble, Holmgren can transform OKC's entire structure.

The Thunders, on average, score 120.6 points per game, they score 49.7% from the field and are ranked 2nd in the league, and 38.3% from the arc and are ranked 3rd in the league. The Thunders grab 41 rebounds per game and ranked 9th in the season.

San Antonio Spurs Preview

Game 1 was the kind of performance that defines a franchise era. Wembanyama played 49 minutes in a double-overtime game, scored 41 points with 24 rebounds, blocked three shots, and was the reason the Spurs survived every moment the Thunder tried to take the game away. His spin-and-floater with 11.5 seconds left in regulation, his 28-foot rainbow at the logo to tie the first overtime, his dunk through Holmgren in the second overtime every time OKC had an answer, Wembanyama had a better one. Castle had 15 points and six assists despite 11 turnovers, and Harper's seven-steal, 24-point, 11-rebound performance starting in place of the injured Fox was the best rookie Conference Finals debut in 45 years. 

The return of Fox for Game 2 changes the offensive texture of this Spurs team enormously. Fox averaged 18.8 points, 5.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 33.3 minutes across 11 playoff games entering this series his attacking pace and pick-and-roll creation are what makes Castle and Harper function as off-ball threats rather than primary creators. 

If he is healthy enough to play 28-30 meaningful minutes, the Spurs' offensive fluency returns and the Castle-turnover problem that plagued Game 1 gets absorbed more cleanly. Wembanyama at 49 minutes in a double-overtime game is the load-management concern nobody is saying out loud expect Mitch Johnson to be more protective of his rest in Game 2, which means Wembanyama needs to deliver 28-34 points more efficiently rather than carrying 49-minute freight.
