Teams Preview
Utah Jazz Preview
The Utah Jazz have had a very rough season so far as they have been very underwhelming so far this season. Losing two of their last three games, courtesy of the Denver Nuggets (122-103) and San Antonio Spurs (128-115) the Jazz had a win against the New York Knicks (121-106) before the two-game losing streak.
The Utah Jazz rank at the bottom of the Northwest Division in 5th place and are second from last in the Western Conference in 14th place, with a record of 4-14. They're rebounding 44.2 a night (14th in the league) and getting an average of 24.3 assists a night (23rd in the league).
At 52.9%, of two-point shooting and 34.7%, from three-pointers, the Jazz are one of the worst scorers in the league. On defense, they give up a lot as they conceded 119.2 per night (27th league). They average 109.4 points a night ranking 23rd league.
Lauri Markkanen has 19.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists in 14 games; John Collins has 17.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists in 17; and Collin Sexton averages 17.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists per game in 18.
Injuries though appear never to get the right time for a visit as six players of the team are reportedly put into day-to-day status, among whom include Markkanen, Collins, Jordan Clarkson, and Drew Eubanks. Kyle Fillipowski (leg), Taylor Hendricks (ankle).
Assuming everyone is fine, the opening five would be point guard Keyonte George, shooting guard Collin Sexton, small forward Lauri Markkanen if he's good or Brice Sensabaugh, power forward John Collins if he's good or Micah Porter, and center Walker Kessler. All these notwithstanding, the Jazz will rely on big men taking control and seeking better positions in the mayhem that will continue unfolding.
Dallas Mavericks Preview
The Dallas Mavericks have been an inconsistent side at best as the reigning Western Conference champions have reflected an 11-8 record at the time of writing. Losing their four-game win streak to the Miami Heat the Texas side did manage to avenge that loss with a win against the Atlanta Hawks in their previous game.
In their last three games, they have a 2-1 win-loss record as they beat the New York Knicks to win back-to-back games, and while they have been the better side offensively the Mavs have been unlucky with their injuries. Luka Doncic was ruled out of action after their game against the New Orleans Pelicans on 20th November and since then the side has lost Klay Thompson, Dante Exum, and Daniel Gafford to injury.
This has left them with very few replacements in the guard position which has hampered their creativity recently. Jaden Hardy is their only viable option at the moment while Maxi Kleber and Derreck Lively II should get extended playing time due to the absence of Daniel Gafford and Dante Exum.
Their offensive strategy relies on their shooting efficiency, especially on their 3-point shooting as they currently average 38%, while they cannel part of their defense strategy by improving on limiting opponents from acquiring points from across the arch.
The Mavericks averaged 48 rebounds and 5 blocks per game while also providing 25 assists. This control over the boards and their passing has been a huge strong point for the Dallas side. On top of this, their 2-point shooting percentage stands at 55%, which shows they shoot pretty well in the 3-point arc.
On the offensive side of the floor, this team relies on Dončić's all-around playmaking and scoring, in addition to a bevy of rim protectors with Dwight Powell and Maxi Kleber anchoring the defense. This team stresses ball movement and shooting efficiency, thus stretching the floor and creating open looks for its shooters.
Defensively, they go on harping over contesting shots and garnering rebounds to cut down second-chance opportunities for their opponents. The team should start with Jaden Hardy as the point guard, Kyrie Irving as the shooting guard, Naji Marshall as the small forward, P.J. Washington as the power forward, and Dereck Lively II as the center.

UTAH JAZZ vs DALLAS MAVERICKS
Winning PredictionThe Mavericks emerged victorious twice in their last three meetings-115-105 on March 25, 2024, and 110-102 on October 28, 2024, while the Jazz won the last fixture between the two 115-113 on November 14, 2024. Historically the Jazz enjoyed a home-advantage edge over the Mavericks, but lately, they found it somewhat difficult.
The Jazz are 4-14, with one win in their last seven games, and 2-7 at home and away. But the Mavericks have won four of five and are 7-3 at home and 4-5 on the road, so they are better. With the team's current struggles, giving the Mavericks the edge is the consistency of the Mavericks but the Jazz have an established history at the Delta Center.
