Leeds United vs Newcastle United Match Prediction & Analysis

The final league action of Matchday 4 comes from Elland Road, where Leeds United welcome Newcastle United on Monday night. Both sides remain unbeaten after three games and have collected similar points, although neither could claim victory last time out.

Leeds are still searching for their first home league win of the season and will be eager to change that, while Newcastle arrive with confidence after securing an away victory in their previous outing and will be hoping for more of the same.

Current Standings: As it stands, the hosts sit ninth in the table with five points, while Newcastle, on the same total, sit seventh.

Head-to-head record: Both teams have played each other 30 times, and as expected Newcastle hold the edge with 13 wins, 7 defeats, and 10  draws over Leeds.

Leeds United Preview

Leeds United have dropped points from two winnable positions in the space of a few days, first against Brighton in the Premier League and then Chelsea in the Carabao Cup. Against Brighton, Jayden Bogle’s 15th-minute opener gave them the perfect start, but a late equaliser denied them all three points.

Their first-half display was a major positive in contrast to their previous games, with Leeds showing greater attacking intent and recording 1.90 xG while creating four big chances. However, they faded after the break, allowing Brighton to pile on the pressure and posting an xGA of 2.14 in the half while conceding just once.

The same story unfolded against Chelsea, only with a far harsher ending. Leeds led 2-0 at half-time but conceded four goals after the break to suffer a 6-3 defeat. Daniel Farke’s biggest challenge now is to ensure his side maintain their intensity across both halves, or similar lapses could prove costly against stronger opposition.

The last time the Whites went unbeaten in their opening four matches of a PL campaign 2001/02.

Leeds have lost just one of their last 12  Premier League matches.

Against no other team has Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored more goals (7) and goal involvements (9) in the league than he has against Newcastle.

Team News

Aside from the long-term absentees, Joe Rodon remains the main concern after picking up an injury against Brentford and missing the last two fixtures. Ilia Gruev could return, although his availability is yet to be confirmed.

Newcastle United Preview

Newcastle had Jacob Ramsey to thank for rescuing a point after falling 2-0 behind against Bournemouth on MD3, with the midfielder completing the comeback with an 88th-minute equaliser. It was another telling impact from the bench, as each of Ramsey’s last four goals has either levelled the score or put his side ahead, while Harvey Barnes had earlier pulled one back for the Magpies.

Despite the result, Newcastle were fortunate to escape with a draw after struggling to create chances, managing just two shots on target and an xG of 0.71. The point extended Matthias Jaissle’s unbeaten start to five games across competitions (W2 D3), with the Magpies then securing a midweek Carabao Cup win over Millwall thanks to Joe Willock’s 90th-minute strike.

The Magpies are unbeaten in eight of their last nine games across competitions.

Only three other teams have had fewer shots on target than Newcastle in the league this season (8).

Newcastle have faced more shots than any other side in the league this season.

Team News

For the Magpies, Dan Burn, William Osula and Joelinton are out with injuries, while Amar Dedic is in doubt following an injury sustained during the Cup game.

Hornicek (GK); Livramento, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Lewis Miley, Steur  Elanga, Wissa, Barnes, Willock

LEEDS UNITED vs NEWCASTLE UNITED

Winning Prediction

The upcoming clash between Leeds and Newcastle looks set to be a closely fought affair. However, Newcastle’s strong record at Elland Road gives the visitors an edge, having lost just once in their last eight Premier League visits (W4 D3).

Leeds have also failed to beat the Magpies in their last six league meetings, with their most recent victory coming in 2021. Interestingly, the last two meetings at this venue ended in draws, and we expect the trend to continue on matchday.

The bookmakers make Leeds slight favourites, but there is little to separate the sides. The hosts are priced at 2.38 for the win, while Newcastle are available at 2.90 and the draw at 3.45.
