New Zealand vs Egypt Match Prediction & Analysis
After a pair of enthralling draws on Matchday 1, the stakes in Group G have risen considerably. Attention now turns to New Zealand and Egypt, two sides whose opening games delivered plenty of entertainment for very different reasons.
The All Whites' pulsating 2-2 draw with Iran provided the chaos and drama, while Egypt's encounter was a tactical battle that proved equally captivating.
With both teams still searching for their first win—and New Zealand knowing Belgium await on the final matchday—there is plenty riding on this contest.
Head-to-Head Record: Egypt hold the upper hand in this fixture having won two of the three matches played between them, while one ended in a draw.

New Zealand Preview
For New Zealand, Matchday 1 felt more like two points dropped than one gained. In an end-to-end encounter with Iran, the All Whites twice took the lead through an Elijah Just's brace, only to be pegged back on both occasions.
Their inability to maintain their defensive structure during transitions left dangerous pockets of space in front of the back four, ultimately proving costly.
There were, however, plenty of positives. New Zealand stayed true to their possession-based identity, building attacks through short passes and purposeful movement, with their opening goal serving as the perfect example.
They finished with 51% possession, an xG of 1.24, and 14 shots, eight of which were on target.
Defensively, though, there is significant room for improvement. Iran registered 17 attempts but managed only four shots on target. Against stronger opposition, the All Whites may not be afforded such generosity, and conceding just twice could be viewed as something of a reprieve.
Key Players
The standout feature of New Zealand’s last outing was the sharp link-up between Elijah Just and Chris Wood, with the pair involved in both goals. Just’s brace also saw him become New Zealand’s all-time leading scorer in World Cup history.
They will once again be the All Whites’ main attacking threat, especially against an Egypt side that is likely to stay compact and disciplined at the back.
Team News
The All Whites were dealt an early blow ahead of their opener, with midfielder Matt Garbett picking up an injury in training and was consequently ruled out of the tournament. He has since been replaced by Auckland FC’s Logan Rogerson.
New Zealand Probable Starting Lineup
Crocombe (GK) ; Smith, Boxall, Bindon, Cacace, McCowatt, Stamenic, Bell, Just, Wood, Waine
Egypt Preview
Egypt arrived at the tournament as something of an enigma under the mercurial Hossam Hassan, whose sides have often been associated with compact, defence-first football. Against Belgium, however, the Pharaohs showed there was more to them, producing an impressive 1-1 draw that could easily have ended in victory had they been more clinical in front of goal.
One of the biggest positives was the way they neutralised the threat of Jérémy Doku. The Belgian winger, one of the most in-form players entering the World Cup, was repeatedly forced to switch flanks and even move centrally as Egypt refused to let him dictate proceedings.
Their disciplined display helped restrict Belgium to no shots in the first half, while Hamdy Fathy Ashour's stunning strike gave the Pharaohs the lead.
Interestingly, the Pharaohs were even more adventurous in the second half, registering 10 shots compared to four in the first. However, they managed just one shot on target. Still, there were plenty of encouraging signs, not least Mohamed Salah's influence in the No. 10 role and Mohamed Hany's excellent all-round display down the right flank.
Key Players
There were doubts about Salah’s form heading into the tournament, but he silenced them with the assist for the goal and three key passes.
Emam Ashour was equally influential, scoring and repeatedly troubling Belgium down the flank. Marmoush, though, had a quieter night and will need to sharpen his finishing.
Team News
As of now, there isn't any news coming out of the Egyptian camp regarding any injury concerns or absentees.
Egypt Probable Starting Lineup
Shobeir (GK) ; Fatouh, Ibrahim, Mohamed Hany, Lasheen, Ashour, Hamdy Fathy, Marwan Attia, Marmoush, Salah, Zico.
NEW ZEALAND vs EGYPT
Winning PredictionThis promises to be another entertaining affair in a group that has already delivered plenty of drama. While New Zealand showed against Iran that they are more than capable of scoring at this level, Egypt hold the edge thanks to their superior individual quality across the pitch.
Meanwhile, the All Whites can certainly trouble the Pharaohs if the latter are wasteful in front of goal, but the bigger question is whether they can tighten up defensively. Given their vulnerability at the back, Egypt look well placed to simply outscore New Zealand.
Likewise, Egypt are considered favorites to win the match according to bookmakers, with one of the sites backing them to win at odds of 1.60 to All Whites’ 5.40 and 3.80 for a draw.
