Cleveland Cavaliers Preview

Game 3 revealed the same pattern for the third time in a row and the Cavaliers have run out of time to fix it. Mitchell scored 23 points but was just 4-for-14 in the second half. Harden took only four shots after the break. Mobley was the most productive Cavalier with 24 points, and the team shot 12-of-41 from three, a number that tells you everything about how the game felt from the inside. 

Brunson scored 21 of his 30 points in the second half. Every time Cleveland cut the deficit to single digits, New York had an answer: a three from Anunoby, a Bridges pullup, a Towns post-up that ended the possession before the Cavs could breathe. The Knicks' versatility has made every Cleveland adjustment irrelevant about six minutes after it is made. 

This is now a pride game and a legacy game for Mitchell and Harden simultaneously. Atkinson has called for everything possible in three games and none of it has held. But Rocket Arena for a potential sweep-elimination is a different environment than anything this building has hosted in a decade, and the crowd will be at its most desperate and its most electric. 

Mitchell at 34-38 points from the opening possession is the only realistic path not 23 points with a flat second half, not 29 points with eight fewer possessions than Brunson. 

Mobley's 24 points in Game 3 showed he can be the offensive catalyst against smaller Knicks wings, his mid-range off the pinch post and his ability to punish switching coverage in the pick-and-roll deserve 22-26 points if Cleveland runs the offence through him more deliberately.

New York Knicks Preview

Game 3 was the quietest dominant performance imaginable. Brunson scored 21 of his 30 points in the second half and never once appeared to be operating at full intensity in the first. Bridges shot 11-for-15 from the field for 22 points. 

Anunoby added 21 with seven rebounds and four assists. Towns finished 13-8-7 with three steals and barely featured in the fourth quarter because the game was already decided. The starting five combined for 96 points and 12 made threes. The Knicks made 55.8% of their shots from the field and went 24-of-27 from the line. This is a team that is not just winning it is finding new ways to win every single night. 

On the road at Rocket Arena with a chance to complete the sweep and reach the first NBA Finals since 1999, the Knicks need composed basketball rather than inspired basketball, the difference between a team chasing history and a team that knows it is inevitable. 

Brunson is the key emotional and tactical factor. He scored 21 points in the second half of Game 3 without a single moment of desperation just read-and-react basketball from the best point guard in the East. Expect 28-32 from him in Game 4 if he stays aggressive from the first quarter rather than easing into the game the way he has across the last two wins. 

Towns finished Game 3 with 13 points and eight rebounds but seven assists and three steals numbers that suggest he was facilitating rather than scoring, and in a closeout game on the road, getting him 24-28 through post touches and second-half isolation sets would remove all Cleveland's hope before the fourth quarter. . 

The Knicks on average, score 119.2 points per game, they score 51.7% from the field and are ranked 1st in the league, and 39.6% from the arc and are ranked 1st in the league. The Knicks grab 43.9 rebounds per game and ranked 5th in the season.
