Orlando Magic Preview

With the Orlando Magic now being 10+ games into the season one can now annotate and say with confidence that the Florida side have not been consistent in their performances especially given that they were considered one of the favorites to qualify for the playoffs due to their young and exciting team but also due to the fact that the Magic side were one of the best teams in the East last season having finished the regular season in fourth place with a record of 47 wins and 35 losses. 

While they did start this season meaning to go a step farther this season with two wins in their first couple of games against the likes of the Miami Heat and the Brooklyn Nets, the Magic then lost their third game against the Memphis Grizzlies before regaining their win record with a win against their next opponents in the Indiana Pacers at home during their fourth game of the season.

Despite this positive start the Magic’s season soon fell into chaos as they lost their next game against the Chicago Bulls while also losing their star man Paolo Banchero to injury who up until that point had averaged most of his team’s points. 

Banchero who had managed to score his career high of 50-points right before his injury had been a guiding light for the Magic and in his absence the team then went on a five-game losing streak, dropping points on the road against the likes of the Chicago Bulls, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Dallas Mavericks, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Indiana Pacers.

This run finally came to an end against the New Orleans Pelicans at home whom the Magic side defeated by a score of 115-88 before another win against the Washington Wizards left the Magic with a record of 5 wins and 6 losses. Currently in fourth place the Magic will require other teams in the division to drop points if they are to stay in the playoff places having played 2 extra games to many of their rivals and this winning run has to go on if they are to be considered as serious challengers come May.

Indiana Pacers Preview

While the Orlando Magic had a bright start with three wins and two losses in their first five games the Indiana Pacers on the other hand have had the complete opposite run of results as they managed to win only two of their first five games while losing three back-to-back games after winning their season opener against the Detroit Pistons by a score of 115-109. 

This slow start hurt their title ambitions at the beginning of the season as after finishing the 2023-24 season as the runners up of the Eastern Conference Finals many fans expected them to be more competitive this term but their abysmal start seemed to have hurt these ambitions as they were stuck in the bottom of the conference in the first few games of the season. 

Despite this horrific start the Pacers are currently third in the Eastern Conference and this is mostly down to their recent resurgence in their form as after losing three games in their first five outings the Pacers picked up their momentum during their win over the Boston Celtics in their fifth game and haven’t looked back since.

Losing to the likes of the New York Knicks, the Orlando Magic and the Philadelphia 76ers in their first four games the Pacers since have already avenged their loss to the New York Knicks and the Orlando Magic in their last five fixtures and while they are yet to play the 76ers again they should beat the Philly side given the form they are in currently.

Additionally, after a start where they only had 2 wins in 5 games the Pacers then went onto win 3 of their next 5 games during which they also won all of their home games which was something they had struggled to do in the first half of the early season. Now currently sitting in 3rd with a game in hand over the Magic the Pacers will be hoping to stay in touch with the leaders and hopefully close the gap of 6 games that the Cavaliers have on them at the time of writing.
